“The Starfish team was a pleasure to work with. Their facilitation of the focus groups to assess the effectiveness of our new intranet was warmly received by our employees. They were professional, thorough, and provided valuable insights that helped us improve our intranet.”

Caroline Verschaeren – Communications Expert, Kom op tegen Kanker

Context

A year before they contacted us, Kom op tegen Kanker launched a revamped version of its intranet. Its internal communications team and colleagues had created an initial version of the intranet that they wanted to further optimize and enhance. To determine the best direction for Kom op tegen Kanker to take in the further development of its intranet, they sought input from their own employees.

Challenge

In an organization that has grown rapidly over a short period of time, gathering employee input is best done in a professional, standardized manner, especially with a view to conducting similar audits on a regular basis in the future. Kom op tegen Kanker wanted to formally, and, through an external partner, objectively, determine what their employees’ genuine experiences with the intranet were and to what extent the intranet adequately supports the organization’s strategic objectives.

Our approach

At Starfish, we achieved this by familiarizing ourselves with the current intranet platform and conducting an initial preliminary audit. We also supported Kom op tegen Kanker by organizing interview sessions with various groups of employees (also known as focus groups).

Thanks to our expertise in internal communication, we guided the discussions to elicit useful, high-quality insights. We ultimately documented the full results in a research report. This report covered every step of the process, allowing Kom op tegen Kanker to transparently track how specific conclusions were reached.

Final result

In our role as consultants, we distilled all the raw input from employees into the answers that Kom op tegen Kanker was looking for and provided them with concrete, action-oriented recommendations for the future.

We mapped out the current use of the intranet. We then provided one clear direction for each strategic objective, explicitly defining the intranet’s role and providing concrete examples of actions for each.

Finally, we provided a summary of the various other insights from the focus groups. All of this resulted in useful insights and actionable steps that enjoyed broad support among employees.
